An Iran with nuclear weapons would represent a clear and present danger to U.S. national security.  An Iranian bomb would set off a nuclear arms race and destabilize the Middle East.  For Israel, it would present an existential threat to the future of the Jewish State.  While the House recently passed the Frank-Kirk bill authorizing states and local governments to divest from Iran (I was deeply honored to receive this letter from Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu on this issue), time is running out.  The Administration should enforce the Iran Sanctions Act -- and the House should move forward with our Iran Petroleum Sanctions Act (H.R. 2194).  Without effective sanctions, diplomacy with Iran cannot succeed.

Yesterday, I met with Israel's Ambassador to the United States, Michael Oren, to discuss new ways to expand U.S.-Israel defense relations and curb Iran's nuclear ambitions.  Democracies are best when they stick together.  Standing together, the United States, Europe and Israel will overcome this threat and secure a lasting peace in the Middle East.
